Larry’s losers in the SEC-Week 9
Boy last week was another exciting showdown in the SEC and the upset bug chewed the butts off more than a few top contenders. We didn’t see Texas, Bama, or Kentucky losing but all were outlasted by the underdogs. In the case of Texas, they were just run out of the stadium! What this says is that it’s still anybody’s race in the SEC except the bottom dwellers. Will this week have as many upsets? Well, let’s get to the listing and see what you think! Missouri at Alabama – The Midwest Meeyowers bring the Missouri Cat Showdown to T-Town to try and earn another blue ribbon victory, but these Pachyderms ain’t providing no ribbons, but they might be merciful and hand out some band-aids at the end of this one. Both these teams had big upset...
Larry’s losers in the SEC-Week 8
Oh perfection, thou art a fickle footballer. Thanks to Ole Miss relying way too much on field goals, they cost me my perfect week. Boy, there’s nowhere to hide in the SEC this season is there? There were so many exciting games that even if you didn’t like football before Saturday, you surely do now! The chance of upsets isn’t any less this week, so we’ve got to keep up the pace and pick the pig skinners who are headed for Poopville. So let’s get started without any further ado and see if we can find where the upset bug bites this week. LSU at Arkansas – When the Bayou Bengals bus themselves over to Razorback Stadium, they may be planning a BBQ, but they know it’s not going to be a picnic. The Piggies have been wanting to be the upset...
Larry’s losers in the SEC-Week 7
My God! If you didn’t like last weekend’s warfare, you don’t really like football! The upset bug had quite a feast last Saturday and who knows what the future holds. I’d feel really bad if any other sports writer had picked Bama to lose. Nobody but those Song City Sailors saw that one coming. And Missouri losing big was another huge shocker. Boy, the SEC ain’t for the faint-hearted! And this week certainly has some games that could go in the upset column too. So since I obviously am on a colder streak than a bobsled run, your guess may be just as bad as mine. But when these games come around I’ll be Spain and Portugal’s wine country, so I won’t take another two-loss week too badly if I do as badly as last week. So let’s see what doing...
I don’t tend to write a lot of articles anymore. I’m enjoying retirement from writing by traveling and still working my regular day job when I’m in Panama City Beach, Florida. But I felt like this is something I needed to say, so here’s the old sports writer’s take on all things concerning Alabama football right now. If I were President of the University, this would be my speech. The State of the Union, as in Alabama football, is still fine. Alabama holds a tie-breaker over Georgia, something not many teams will have, and it’s really hard to see any team escaping SEC play without a loss before the playoffs. Right now only Texas still has the title of undefeated in our league and they looked very pedestrian for much of the Mississippi...
Larry’s losers in the SEC-Week 6
Check out Larry's work at https://collegefootballnowme.wordpress.com/ Wow! We may have just had the best week in a long time with some great games, exciting finishes, and upset results, and this week the drama may not be quite as big. With a lot of teams taking the bye week, I have fewer chances of making a miss. Speaking of a miss, you can’t spell Ole Miss without those letters and last week everyone in football writing was shocked to see Kiffin’s Kommandos fall to the Loser’s List. That was my only miss. To make it worse, I’ve been saying all season that these Kentucky Kitties are going to knock off a big boy and when they did it, I missed it. So let’s get to this week’s list and see who’s gonna wind up on the wrong side of the...
An Old Sports Writer’s take on the Alabama vs Georgia game
As someone who has seen and studied it all in my nearly 67 years on this planet, I was not prepared, and in fact, am not able to fully process what just occurred in Tuscaloosa Saturday night. I mean, I, and every decent sports writer expected a war, and why not? That just seems to be the norm when these two knock helmets. This was not just the typical war however as much as it was a test to see if Alabama’s new coach, Kalen DeBoer really had a strong clue and a firm grasp of what he had taken on in taking the reins of this Bama team from Nick Saban’s hands. Was he going to have himself and this team ready for this level of war in his first big SEC contest? Well, the answer was a resounding yes to that. DeBoer was cool, calm, and...
