Lets take a look at the schedule for this weekend from the perspective of the CFP rankings.
Here is the current 12 team bracket as of the first week of the ranking.

This Weeks schedule (Home team in BOLD)
  1. Oregon vs Maryland
  2. Ohio State vs Purdue
  3. Georgia vs (16) Ole Miss
  4. Miami vs Georgia Tech
  5. Texas vs Florida
  6. Penn State vs Washington
  7. Tennessee vs Mississippi State
  8. Indiana vs Michigan
  9. BYU vs Utah
  10. Notre Dame vs Florida State
  11. Alabama vs (15) LSU
  12. Boise State vs Nevada
  13. SMU – Idle
  14. Texas A&M – Idle
  15. LSU (Listed above - Hosting Alabama
  16. 16 (Listed above - Hosting Georgia)
  17. Iowa State vs Kansas
  18. Pittsburgh vs Virginia
  19. Kansas State – Idle
  20. Colorado vs Texas Tech
  21. Washington State vs Utah State
  22. Louisville – Idle
  23. Clemson vs Virginia Tech
  24. Missouri vs Oklahoma
  25. Army vs North Texas

So, as we can see, the only 2 teams in the top 12 of the bracket that are playing ranked teams are #3 Georgia (16-Ole Miss) and #11 Alabama(15-LSU). I honestly think these 2 games will be hard fought battles. Of course I hope that Ole Miss can upset Georgia. We have them at home, and Georgia had a hard fought rivalry game last weekend against Florida. My hope is that UGA comes to Oxford physically and mentally hungover from that game….of course I want to beat them at their best, but its win or go home time for 2 loss Ole Miss, so I will take any advantage I can get. In our pick-em, I picked UGA. I am not betting from the dark side here, just my analytical personality tells me that UGA has the better talent. And let’s face it, my mind is still stuck on a home loss to Kentucky that is just inexplicable to me.

Alabama versus LSU in Red Stick has the makings of an old school, SEC slobber-knocker. Both teams clinging to playoff hopes. Both teams having 2 losses makes this game pretty an elimination game as well, barring some crazy things down the waning weeks of the 2024 football season. I have Bama in our pick-em, but anyone that doesn’t think LSU will play their best game, at night in Death Valley, has just never watched the “Tigahs” play football. Very hard game for me to break down. I would like to hear from our resident Bama fans on keys to victory…….. and maybe, just maybe, we can get an LSU fan to weigh in on their keys as well.

The number 5 Texas Longhorns could be in for a stout contest. Everyone can see that Florida is definitely playing better than early in the season. But this game is in Austin, so I don’t see them pulling off the upset. As for the rest of that top 12 bracket, I do not see any losses for the ranked teams. But this is college football. Any given Saturday right?

Weigh in folks. Lets use this site for what it was built for. Lets talk college football, and hell, we can even talk some trash.
