Coach-to-player in-game communications during Power 4 college football games this season have been occurring on unencrypted frequencies, sources told ESPN on Wednesday, a revelation that raises questions about whether they could have been compromised.

I think this will be a thing moving forward, so what if it's encrypted even. Ever heard of hacking? Instead of having scouts watching the game, teams will have a van outside hacking their way into the networks and recording signal calls.

What was wrong with the old method of sending in messages from the sidelines?

I read this story, and thought about linking it here for discussion.

I personally don’t like it. Half the time the player with the helmcom has to cover his earholes just to hear it, and then they still look at the sidelines for signs.

If this is really happening, it could explain how so many underdogs have been winning this year. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but does it ever seem like the other team knows exactly what the play will be?

I think we should just go back to the signaling from the sidelines. Just let the other team try to figure out which signal is correct

As someone who works in IT I will tell you, if someone wants some data bad enough, they can get it.
