Go back to last season's game against Georgia. A lightbulb seemed to have came on in Lane's head. We all saw it(Ole Miss Fans)..... we saw a shift in how he recruited, in how he approached the portal, and at how he approached NIL. Before that embarrassing 52-17 loss to Georgia, we saw a certain type of player(s) that Kiffin would go after. Heavy on the offensive play makers, but not so much where it really counts..... Those big uglies across the lines.
He built a juggernaut defense. Man, this may be the best defense I have seen in my 55 years. Hell..... I am going to say it, it is the best defensive unit I have ever seen at Ole Miss. From the DL through the middle, to our secondary, from one end to the other, we are built to hurt opposing offenses. Princely Umanmielen may very well be the best pass rusher I remember at Ole Miss since Greg Hardy. I have strained my brain to remember one better since....... Marquis Haynes? He was good, but he wasn't like Princely. Umanmielen combines size, speed, and pure tackling technique better than any I can remember. And where can a RB or QB flee? If he goes to the other side and runs into someone like Jared Ivey, or Walter Nolen, or JJ Pegues. I just cannot say enough, I dont have the correct words. Talented authors like Chris Low or Andy Staples may can do better, but I dont have enough available good adjectives to pile on that defensive unit.
So the lightbulb lit up..... Kiffin wants to win a championship. He saw Georgia as the template. So all I am saying is that Kiffin built this team for that game yesterday. Georgia came to Oxford and ran into a team specifically built to beat them. The Rebels had a few slips this year. We (Ole Miss players/coaches/fans) can all beat ourselves up over them, or we can just keep on moving forward with the original mission.
Yesterday, this Ole Miss team did what they were built to do. The main goal is to go on and win a championship. As I said, Kiffin wants to win a championship so that remains goal #1, yesterday though was the biggest giant leap towards that ultimate goal that we.... Ole Miss, as a whole program, have made this year.
Hotty MF Toddy!!!
